How to export your data from Apple Health
Apple bundles your full history into one official archive. Follow these 5 steps:
Open Apple Health
Open the built-in Health app on your iPhone containing your historical fitness records.
Tap Your Profile Picture
Tap your profile photo or initials in the upper-right corner of the screen to open account settings.
Tap "Export All Health Data"
Scroll to the very bottom of the page and tap Export All Health Data. Tap Export when prompted to confirm.
Keep Your iPhone Awake
Apple Health takes 1 to 5 minutes to bundle years of workouts and heart rates. Keep your screen on until the iOS share menu appears.
Save to Files or AirDrop
When the share sheet appears, choose Save to Files or AirDrop it straight to your new iPhone. Then open Health Import and select the file.
Troubleshooting & Answers
Doesn't iCloud already back up my Apple Health data? Why do I need an export?
While iCloud backups can restore an identical phone clone, millions of users need an export archive due to several common situations:
- Setting up as a new iPhone: Performing a clean setup to avoid transferring old system cache and bugs.
- iCloud Health sync glitches: Apple Health sync frequently stalls or fails to download historical workouts and GPS maps.
- Switching Apple IDs: iCloud Health cannot transfer data between two different Apple accounts.
- Unencrypted computer backups: Standard Mac or PC backups completely exclude HealthKit data unless encrypted.
In these scenarios, exporting an official export.zip is the only way to safeguard your fitness history, and Health Import is the only tool that writes it back into HealthKit.
The app says "HealthKit Authorization Denied". How do I fix it?
Open the Settings app on your iPhone, scroll down to Health → tap Data Access & Devices → tap Health Import → tap Turn All On. Then return to Health Import and tap Import again.
Will importing mess up my steps or streak on my new iPhone?
No. Health Import checks your existing health records before adding anything. If an entry already exists for a specific day or workout, it is safely skipped. Your current steps and activity streaks will not be doubled.
Why aren't my past Activity rings showing up in the Fitness app immediately?
All your workouts, calories, and exercise minutes are saved directly to Apple Health immediately. The Fitness app recalculates historical ring graphics in the background, which iOS usually completes over a short period of time.
Can I switch apps or lock my iPhone while the import runs?
Yes. Health Import supports iOS background processing. You can switch to other apps or lock your phone, and the import will continue until completed.
What does "past 365 days of data free" mean? Is this a software trial?
No, it is not an app usage trial. The 365-day cutoff applies to the age of your health records, not how long you use the software. Any health data recorded within the past 12 months (workouts, steps, heart rates, sleep) is 100% free to restore at any time, forever. If you have older records from two, five, or ten years ago, a single one-time $3.99 purchase unlocks your entire historical archive.
How do I restore my $3.99 lifetime unlock on another phone?
Tap Unlock Full History, then tap Restore Purchases. Apple will verify your Apple ID and restore your lifetime access immediately at no extra charge.
What if my export.zip file fails to open?
If you transferred the file via iCloud Drive or AirDrop, make sure the download has fully finished in the Files app before selecting it. If the file transfer was interrupted, try exporting again from the Health app on your old phone.
